Dunlop Motorcycle Tires

It was John Boyd Dunlop who invented the modern pneumatic tire. From which rose one of the largest tire companies in the world. Dunlop motorcycle tires rank amongst the best in the world. They also have one of the widest ranges, with a tire for every application. Let's look at some of them.

  • High Performance and Sports tires: More national road racing championships have been won on Dunlop motorcycle tires than any other manufacturer.

  • Touring Radial / Custom Wide Tires: Meant for long distance highway cruising

  • Sports Bias / Cruiser / Touring Tires: Multi function tires designed for heavy motorcycles that are used under varying conditions

  • Harley-Davidson Tires: Dunlop is the only company making a special line of tires designed exclusively for use on Harley-Davidson motorcycles. There are different tires for touring, cruiser and sports applications.

  • Original Equipment Tires: Dunlop is an O.E. supplier to most major motorcycle manufacturers. This range comprises of tires available for replacement that are identical to the Dunlop motorcycle tires that came with a new motorcycle.

  • Off Road Tires: These tires have won more than 100 national off road championships. There are two categories of tire in this class - the Competition Series meant for those for whom performance is all that matters, not cost or durability, in other words, the pro racer. Then there is the Sports Series, designed for the amateur. These tires combine good performance with economy and long life.

  • Trials Tires: Designed for stunt and trials use, they can also be used for off road riding.

  • Racing Tires: This range contains four different categories. There are Dunlop motorcycle tires for track racing, Supermoto, and Dirt Track and Trial / sport applications.

  • Dual Sport / Desert Tires: Designed for the weekend adventure rider and built for off road performance, these tires can also be used for week day commuting.

Dunlop motorcycle tires come in a wide range and a tire is available to meet most needs, whether it is racing, off roading, stunt riding, or highway cruising. There are also multi use tires that can be used for both specialized applications and normal road use. Obviously, the multi purpose tires have some design compromises and so their performance, while being adequate for the weekend sports rider, will not match that of the specialized tires. When buying a buying a motorcycle tire remember that, more than for car tires, a specialized tire should not be used for purposes other than what it was designed for.
